Hotel Features. Built in 1927 as fashionable apartments for affluent North Side residents, the building was converted into a luxury hotel in 1974. The Whitehall Hotel's history flows today through an elegant lobby encased by original wood paneling and dotted with fresh flowers, antique mahogany furnishings, richly patterned carpeting and oil paintings. The hotel's bistro, Molive, specializes in Mediterranean and Asian-influenced California cuisine in a stylish dark-wooded dining room with colorful murals. Molive's trendy bar serves more than 200 varieties of martinis, 40 different wines and abundant single malt whiskies, port, Madeira and sherry. Guestrooms. The Whitehall Hotel's 223 guestrooms are decorated with antique- style, dark wood furniture, crown moldings and carved headboards with contrasting floral and striped prints. Narratives are available in English, French, Japanese or Spanish. The Observatory is located two blocks from the hotel and is open daily from 9 a.m.-11 p.m.
