| Description: Location. The contemporary St Martins Lane hotel is located in the West End of central London, England, next door to The English National Opera. Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery are all a block away. Covent Garden Piazza is three blocks from the hotel, and Buckingham Palace is half a mile away. Leicester Square Tube station is one block from the hotel.
Hotel Features. This Ian Schrager hotel, designed by Philippe Starck, has a minimalist lobby with contemporary sculptures and a virtual aquarium. A ride in the lift is enlivened by video displays.

Tuscan Steak restaurant has lampshades printed with views of the Tuscan landscape, and offers courtyard dining in the warmer months. Asia de Cuba serves a fusion of Latin American, Caribbean and Asian cuisine. The Light Bar has atmospheric lighting, and serves cocktails and fresh sushi. Room service is available 24 hours a day.

The hotel has meeting rooms, banqueting facilities and a business centre.

Guests can work out in the well-equipped fitness centre.

Guestrooms. The St Martins Lane hotel's 205 climate-controlled guestrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows with views over London. They feature designer furniture, high-speed Internet connections, satellite television, DVD and CD players, refrigerators and minibars. Bedside dials allow guests to control the colour and intensity of the lighting. There are also illuminated marble desks.

Expert Tip. The London Coliseum, next door to the hotel, is home to the English National Opera. It's a good place for opera novices, as all its performances are in English.

From London Heathrow Airport (LHR):
 Distance to St Martins Lane hotel is 16 miles, approximately 40 minutes' drive. 

Getting there.  The Heathrow Express train is the quickest way into London. It departs from the airport every 15 minutes, and takes 15 minutes to reach Paddington Station in central London. The journey is non-stop and costs 14.50 GBP. Paddington is on the Hammersmith and City, District and Circle, and Bakerloo lines of London's Underground (Tube). Additionally, the airport is on the Piccadilly line of the Underground, which runs directly to Kings Cross, Leicester Square, Knightsbridge, and Green Park underground stations. The journey to central London takes approximately one hour, and trains depart every 10 minutes. A one-day travel pass costs 6.30 GBP, including travel to Heathrow (in zone 6). Black taxis cost approximately 50 GBP to central London. Coaches operate to London Victoria and the rest of the UK, and the airport is also served by local buses. Prices are all subject to change. 

Getting around.  St Martins Lane is a block from Leicester Square Underground station. The London Underground (Tube) and buses are the easiest ways to travel within London. Single tickets are expensive, but an electronic Oyster card offers a cheaper fare. Oyster cards can be purchased from ticket offices for 3 GBP (refundable). Daily or weekly travel passes are the most economical way to travel, and are valid on buses, trams, trains, and DLR, as well as on the Underground. Black taxis are available on the streets, but can be expensive. Driving is not recommended for visitors and a congestion charge zone is operated in central London. Valet parking is available at the hotel (surcharge may apply).
